Shri Ram Lal Anand, an eminent lawyer of the Supreme Court, laid the foundation of RLA College in 1964. Initially, the college functioned in Defence Colony and Green Park before moving to its present location at Benito Juarez Road, opposite Anand Niketan. In 1973, the college was taken over by the University of Delhi and it now functions as a Delhi University maintained institution. It is a multi-faculty, co-educational college, having at present approximately 1350 students on its rolls in various courses.

R.L.A. College is situated in the neighbourhood of the South Campus. It has a vast campus spread over 10 acres of uninterrupted green lawns divided into multidimensional vertical and horizontal space, reflecting its multi-disciplinary character.
